There is nothing wrong in being obsessed or wanting a particular brand ! if its a staus symbol so be it, ill be honest and say branded items and clothes or cars anything with a high brand value is normally better in most cases than unbranded. If a person works soo hard and can afford a particular item then why not ? They are only encouraging you to buy it not forcing you so why fuss ? Im obbsessed with clothes from Zara or Massimo Dutti 2 spanish brands that are awesome yet a bit pricey but im ready to pay for the price. If i can afford to buy a 100K car then i will buy it, its all about consumer freedom to spend which is what governmetns should strive for instead of taking away your incomes and making you poor
It's just because everything comes in a brand, and there are cute brands, cheap brands and all these kinds of brands that it makes us like them. We need clothes and shoes and headphones, and socks e.c.t. All of these come in different brands, some people tend to go for the "good" brand while others go for the "bad" one. It's not that people are obsessed with them, is that we live an everyday life with them. Also it's advertised a lot, everything is shown on television and how awesome it is and what not, "being cool" is what is the in now, so people are going to tend to go with expensive brands so they get a higher view on them, or just simply because that brand is a cute one.
Branding is one of the most important areas of marketing. People often have impressions of the quality of brands that may be deserved or undeserved. People associate Toyota with dependability, Apple with innovation, Harley Davidson with rebellion. TAG Heuer with precision, Prada with style, Rolls Royce with uncompromising quality, etc.
Harley Davidson has such loyalty from consumers that some of them even tattoo or brand themselves with the logo.
People are obsessed with brands because the companies have been successful making their brand desirable.
Brands are about status and while I really don't care what brand I have and long as the product I have does what I need it to, I have seen people that will go buy a car "like an escalade for say $70K and then park it in front of their $50K house. I think it is stupid, and more just living in the moment, not planning for the future.
Good question. I suppose it is mainly to blame on advertising. They create this image of sexy, young and successful people wearing things relating to their brand and the consumers naturally want to look like that, so they buy it and it seems cool. I have never gotten the big deal behind it though.
try to fit in... look cool, have the 'image" it's not really a big deal here though. we see something we liek we buy it, it doesn't matter where it's from.
