Should I get a parakeet?

I was reading on the internet.. and it said that parakeets are fairly easy to take care of.. Yes I can afford the food and stuff but I was just making sure this was true. I would love to have a bird to be me and my dogs buddy =D and im home schooled so I would be with it all the time!!! So would you reccomend it?

Answer #1

I wish you would come take mine its like 8 years old and its the only animal I’ve had that I didn’t get attached to I could let it fly out the window right now if I was cruel enough I don’t care much for the bird. It goes crazy in the mornings waking me up it bites at me it wouldn’t let me touch it even at an early age when I tried to get it to like me I think it’s just a mean one I might would like another bird but I doubt I ever get one with this bad experience.

Answer #2

well, if you can afford it and your homeschooled then I would say yes, its perfectly okay, so go ahead but when you do, be sure to check on petfinder for one before going to a breeder.

Answer #3

oh duh lol!! I wont let my dog get it.. But my dog is really sweet to other animals so he wouldnt harm it anywayz. My grandmas birds ride on her big dogs back lol… and my grandma already told me about the blanket on the cage trick.. so I got that covered… is that all I need to know?

Answer #4

yes but they can get very noisy and kind of make a mess..so when you go to sleep it helps if you put a blanket over their cage and then they will be quited

Answer #5

I use to have parakeets and I loved them. Make sure you check out a book from the library on taking care of your parakeet and little reading to get things right is always a good start for a new pet.

Remember like any pet. Keep his cage clean, fresh food and water daily and keep your bird out of drafts. Oh and they can look like they have food in their cup and it is just the hulls from the seeds so do dump and give fresh food daily.

Have fun. The only thing that can be on the expensive side is the cage I believe.
