I am getting a new puppy soon. he will be 8 wks old. where we live we usually have pretty harsh, cold winters. do you recomend paper training until spring or should I start outdoors. I don't want to confuse him, but don't know if it will be too cold for outdoor visits.
OUTSIDE...when they are small and 8 weeks old, it may seem kinder to you...a human...to have them going inside on paper...Come summer, you'll wish you'd never started it. The only way to truly housetrain a pup is to accompany them out side, so therefore the pup won't be out long enough to get very cold...(it might even hurry him up)...
Read the "How To" on housebreaking a pup...it doesn't take but a couple of weeks...and worth every minute of your time...

I live in NW Montana...and have housetrained many pups in the winter...I'm the one who gets cold...they seem to be fine!

Thanks for the great advice. Outside it is. That was my first inclination so I am going with it...wanted to hear from someone who has done it before. This is my first baby puppy and I want to do things right.
If you live where there's only a door separating you from outside, then by all means, train for outside. Most dogs can easily handle New York weather.
