“Palin clearly smoked it” Proving that you are a quick learn is not “smoking it”, it is cramming before an exam, and long forgotten after the exam is over.

Answer #4

Answer #5

Ugh Palin is horrible. It didn’t even look like she knew a damn thing she was talking about. She floundered. I was actually embarrassed for her, I thought it was painfully obvious that she has no background in debate, she looked like a fish out of water.

Oh and if she said “Maverick” one more time, I was going to throw something at her.

Answer #6

I disagree with amblessed 100%. I’m not planning to vote for McCain or Obama, so I feel my opinion on this is as close to objective as it gets.

Biden actually answered almost all the questions, whereas Palin rambled on about whatever she felt like at least 1/2 the time. She seemed very nervous and highly scripted. Biden came across as genuinely knowledgeable about everything they discussed, even though he occasionally confused Obama and McCain and had to recover.

Palin’s odd statement about the legislative role of the VP shocked me even before Biden correctly pointed out she was off in the weeds. Yikes! Do we really need another term of executive branch that has no idea what its Constitutional limits are!?

On taxes, Palin lodged vague claims of wide spread tax increases toward Obama/Biden, and seemed set back when Biden explained that no-one making under $250k would see a tax increase with their plan. …though I personally doubt the integrity of Obama/Bien on this point, from a debate perspective, Biden turned it right around and pinned McCain/Palin with tax cuts for oil companies, to which she had no real response.

On the war, I felt Biden nailed her again by quoting from the generals in the field who indicate the McCain plan is misguided. I also think the policy she mentioned of “don’t talk to our enemies until they make concessions” is horrifically misguided. We must always appear strong, but a willingness to talk does not indicate weakness, it indicates rationality.

As much as I hate the idea of socialized medicine, I think Biden bested her again on the McCain tax credit plan. I’d rather they do nothing at all honestly, but Palin failed to even make mention of any drawbacks to the Obama plan, except to harp about the cost. But $1 trillion for national health care starts to sound cheap compared to the trillions Bush has squandered on an unnecessary war in Iraq combined with the almost $1 trillion economic “rescue” package now being planned. The Republicans are simply in no position at all to talk about fiscal conservatism. It’s laughable.

On the gay marriage question, both candidates oppose gay ‘marriage’, but Biden made it clear he favors equal rights for same sex couples, and listed specifically what he was talking about; hospital visitation rights, medical benefits, inheritance. Palin rambled on about contracts, something that has never been tested in court on these issues. It’s obvious her religious fanaticism is trumping her sense of humanity on this issue.

On education, both seemed to be trying to shout the loudest. Neither recognized that education is the explicit Constitutional domain of the states, and the federal government has no role.

Last night’s Debate - Joe Biden’s 14 Lies

  1. TAX VOTE: Biden said McCain voted “the exact same way” as Obama to increase taxes on Americans earning just $42,000, but McCain DID NOT VOTE THAT WAY.

  2. AHMEDINIJAD MEETING: Joe Biden lied when he said that Barack Obama never said that he would sit down unconditionally with Mahmoud Ahmedinijad of Iran. Barack Obama did say specifically, and Joe Biden attacked him for it.

  3. OFFSHORE OIL DRILLING: Biden said, “Drill we must.” But Biden has opposed offshore drilling and even compared offshore drilling to “raping” the Outer Continental Shelf.”

  4. TROOP FUNDING: Joe Biden lied when he indicated that John McCain and Barack Obama voted the same way against funding the troops in the field. John McCain opposed a bill that included a timeline, that the President of the United States had already said he would veto regardless of it’s passage.

  5. OPPOSING CLEAN COAL: Biden says he’s always been for clean coal, but he just told a voter that he is against clean coal and any new coal plants in America and has a record of voting against clean coal and coal in the U.S. Senate.

  6. ALERNATIVE ENERGY VOTES: According to FactCheck.org, Biden is exaggerating and overstating John McCain’s record voting for alternative energy when he says he voted against it 23 times.

  7. HEALTH INSURANCE: Biden falsely said McCain will raise taxes on people’s health insurance coverage – they get a tax credit to offset any tax hike. Independent fact checkers have confirmed this attack is false

  8. OIL TAXES: Biden falsely said Palin supported a windfall profits tax in Alaska – she reformed the state tax and revenue system, it’s not a windfall profits tax.

  9. AFGHANISTAN / GEN. MCKIERNAN COMMENTS: Biden said that top military commander in Iraq said the principles of the surge could not be applied to Afghanistan, but the commander of NATO’s International Security Assistance Force Gen. David D. McKiernan said that there were principles of the surge strategy, including working with tribes, that could be applied in Afghanistan.

  10. REGULATION: Biden falsely said McCain weakened regulation – he actually called for more regulation on Fannie and Freddie.

  11. IRAQ: When Joe Biden lied when he said that John McCain was “dead wrong on Iraq”, because Joe Biden shared the same vote to authorize the war and differed on the surge strategy where they John McCain has been proven right.

  12. TAX INCREASES: Biden said Americans earning less than $250,000 wouldn’t see higher taxes, but the Obama-Biden tax plan would raise taxes on individuals making $200,000 or more.

  13. BAILOUT: Biden said the economic rescue legislation matches the four principles that Obama laid out, but in reality it doesn’t meet two of the four principles that Obama outlined on Sept. 19, which were that it include an emergency economic stimulus package, and that it be part of “part of a globally coordinated effort with our partners in the G-20.”

  14. REAGAN TAX RATES: Biden is wrong in saying that under Obama, Americans won’t pay any more in taxes then they did under Reagan.
