Oscar fish moves around when the lights are on only?

my oscar only seems to move around when all the lights are out is this normal ???

Answer #1

It’s perfectly normal.

Tiger Oscars can take a while to get used to new lighting.

Plus it’s a natural instinct to stay in darker areas to stay away from predators - he could be just feeling exposed which could make him seem so shy.

I usually keep my tank lights off except for a short period of time during the day (maybe 1-2 hours) and during feeding time.

You can try underwater lights to give your aquarium a soft glow as opposed to a glaring fluorescent light: http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/group/23741/product.web . There are also fluorescent bulb tank sleeves available: http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/group/10903/product.web

You might also try colored glass or acrylic under your lights.

Yet another option would be to add floating vegetation or driftwood.
