What are your opinions on cops?

I hate them! Mostly because the ones in my town are known by everyone as just a joke.

I completely agree with you. I know a lady that’s a cop, and she’s tough. But at the same time she’s sweet as can be. You’re right… most of them are just doing their job., The town where I live now, a cop was firedl because he thought he could abuse the priviledges with his baby girl…by abusing her. He through her up against the crib, and cracked her skull. So yes, good cops and bad cops(:

I think that they’re hard working individuals who seriously and unfairly get disrespected. They do a job that I know I could never do. I have a lot of respect for them.

I don’t mind cops there here to help for the most part there are exeptions

because i work at a court i talk to them heaps, they are just normal people who have a job and who are educated they are actually very nice people doing a hard job. most of the people i know who are very helpful and caring are police officers fair enough they catch you doing things wrong but could you imagine how bad a place would be without them? people would do what ever they wanted sounds a bit fun till you realize what people could get away with

I know that some of them are doing their jobs,but overhere I have had friends stopped and asked blatantly for bribes and even some people beaten because of it. Horror stories. Point is when you are in South Africa, you don’t stop when a cop asks you to at night, you drive to your nearest police station.

Cops are people. You have to give them props for signing up for a job that potentially requires them to risk or give their life to protect others. I’ve also has minor issues with police like a ticket I didn’t deserve. Traffic cops who hassled me for no good reason. And not taking it seriously when I was hit on my bicycle by a hit-and-run motorist. None of my interactions with the police have been positive. Nothing has ever come from my filing a police report after being a victim of crime but there have been times they treated me like a criminal when I broke no laws. One time when I worked late I got drawn on by a cop as I locked up the bike shop I was managing. Tell you what, nothing makes your heart race like looking at the business end of a pistol.

I know they have a tough job that doesn’t pay great but makes them have to deal with deal with the very worst elements of society and put their own life on the line. I think the stress, abuse, and burnout cops experience can lead to their taking it out on people who don’t deserve it.

mmm, i honestly feel bad for them sometimes. They are under a lot of stress, and i am sure some things they see or expeirence effects who they use to be.

My brother hates cops(he thinks he’s a “gangsta” or something Lolz) plus he has had a bad past with them. Me? I don’t mind them. Though somtimes they put on thier siren to go through a red light then like futher own the street they turn them off. Some of them are just lazy to wait at a red light but not all of them do that. Some of them are pretty cool where I live actually =)

The only reason they do that is because they’re trying to get somewhere. I once made a comment like that to a cop friend, we’re really close, and she got upset. They have to obey the laws just like everyone else. But when they speed up, or something like you said- it’s all the time for a reason!

cops are great when they are doing their job. My biggest problem is with cops that are out to get people for anything and everything they can. Everyone is a criminal and i do mean EVERYONE and a big part of their job is to use some of their own discretion. An example of this is a person going just a bit over the speed limit - at what point do they act and pull you over. Or to use an example that usually causes controversy how about busting a person for possession of a single joint for personal use with no obvious intent to traffic - do you arrest that person or do you confiscate and destroy the pot and let them off with a warning. I would like to think that the cops here in Canada have a bit more sense than say the US (largest per-capita detention rate) but I see it comes with the power they wield and only balanced out through proper oversight. Dash cams help a lot with the oversight part. (bias allert- 2 family and 6 close friends are police)
