Not a barbie

I just got hired as a abercrombie and fitch brand rep or sales person. I am fair skinned, brunette. I don;t know how I was hired. I am worried they will fire me for not really filling the sterotype, has anyone expierenced this?

Answer #1

They hired you for a reason - keep that smile on and great attitude going, you’ll be fine !!

Answer #2

lol, ehbetch has it right… it is sad, my friend worked in the store for a year, apparently the managers even commented on how the girls in his particular store werent attractive enough (this would be infront of these girls) they have a rating scale, the district managers rate the stores on how attractive the employees are… how sad is that?

Answer #3

well they did start hiring other ethnicities after they got sued…

so not being blonde isnt going to get you fired… as long as you’re attractive enough, they’re happy… (my friend worked there, yes that is really all that counts)

Answer #4

Maybe they’ve noticed their hiring protocol makes them look like an aryan-militia-training-conglomerate? So they’re expanding their hiring beyond ‘blonde hair & blues eyes’

…or maybe its simply because your cute? The DO tend to hire what they perceive to be ‘attractive’ people.

Answer #5

are you kidding? I’ve seen BIG girls, small girls, black girls, latin girls, white girls, asian girls, brunettes, and red heads ALL work at abercrombie. you don’t have to be a tan blonde barbie.

what’ll get you fired is your low self-confidence and negative self image.

Answer #6

Your personality is what they want you for - it has nothing to do with what stereotype you are.

Answer #7

Like I said before they obviously hired you for a reason.

Answer #8

no
