My stupid dog

This may sound totally gross, but my dog is nearly 2 years old and eats his own poo! It is rather gross Is there any way I can stop him from doing it? Help would be great!

Ask your veterinarian for a product call “ Forbid “. You might find it in one of those pet stores like PetSmart. I know that it can be bought online or from a catalog from Jeffers.com. Sprinkle it over his food and after a few days, his poo won’t taste as good as before! But you should take him to your vet. He may have other problems that are causing this behavior. I’ve never had a problem with any of my dogs, but I have seen this behavior in dogs at the shelter I volunteer at. We use Forbid and quick clean-up. Also if the dog can be paired up with another dog so they have a ‘buddy’ to play with it helps to stop this behavior. But see the vet. I think the folks saying to feed him pineapple may be right. If so, then he’s missing an enzyme. You could try a little acidophilus or ‘active culture’ yogurt. If the dog’s had a course of antibiotics, then he’s had all of the ‘good’ bacteria in his gut killed off. All mammals have these bacteria, even us! They help us to digest our food more efficiently. If he doesn’t have these, that may explain why he’s giving his food a second chance at nourishment . : - {

personally, my dogs dont do this, but I do know dogs that do. watch to call them inside after they poo, but dont clean it up. let them back outside later and see what they do. if they eat, tell them no and send them inside. then you can clean it up. this is a prosess you can use for anything really. eventally, they’ll get the message and stop.

Answer #3

it is usual for dogs, sometimes it can be because they are lacking in certain vitamins, or it could just be because it is a behaviour that has developed into a sort of “habit”

You can buy things on the market to make it taste weird so that the dog will not eat it, but sometimes these things work sometimes they don’t…

Hope this helped a bit

there is a vitamin in dog poo that he is missing that he can get in pinapple so for treats give him pineapple and mix in a little in his food then it should stop… my pup did the same thing…

Answer #5

There’s as many opinions about why they do it as people to give opinions…It’s a common problem with dogs.

One way, is as mentioned above…clean it up immediately…Also, there is stuff on the market (you can get at Petco), to add to their food. It supposedly makes poop distasteful (like it isn’t anyway)…I’ve heard of people also adding MSG to their food to stop the behavior. I don’t have much faith in these additives, tho.
