Am I reading into my mothers comments about the yellow blouse?

Two days ago me, my mom my two nieces, my sister and brother-in-law went out to celebrate the moms birthday. I wore one of the blouses I purchased. It was a yellow blouse with a lace collar. Then the next day in the morning I showed my mom two other blouses I purchased. My mom said they are beautiful. Then about two hours later I realized there was one blouse I forgot to show my mom a black shear with beading around the neck.

Mom: “Why didn’t you wear this last night” Stacy: “Why didn’t you like what I wore last night” Mom: “Yes, but it is only what Lisa said which is the yellow blouse is in the same style as the Puritans. This black blouse is dressy you could wear it to a wedding and you like to get really dressed up” Stacy: “I feel like you are putting down what I wore” Mom: “No that is what you hear. You got to get over what you think people are saying and listen to what they are saying. You have so many things to wear. You could have worn anything - you could have worn this But you like to get dressed up” (And my mom pointed out two more things in my closet. Stacy: “Why don’t you think the yellow blouse is dressy Mom: “Yes but the black blouse with beading is really dressy” Stacy: “Mom I was thinking it really doesn’t matter if you liked the yellow blouse or not I liked it” Mom: “True, but I never said I didn’t like the yellow blouse, I liked the yellow blouse”

My question: Am I reading into my mothers comments about the yellow blouse

Answer #1

Stacy, why don’t you ever allow your mother to have a preference? She told you what she thought, without beating around the bush in the slightest. For some reason you’re continuing to look for things that aren’t there. Try and have a bit more confidence and don’t worry what she likes or doesn’t like.

Answer #2

Yes you are definately reading into the comments about the yellow blouse…and the 99 cent store…and the size issue..

Answer #3

Just to let you know the yellow blouse is just in style now. Go to Bloomingdales and you will see that style. Jones New York, Ralph Lauren (to name a few) have blouses in the same style as the yellow blouse

Answer #4

I think that your making a big deal out of nothing. I think that she has a right to her own opinion since you asked her but it ultimatly comes down to what YOU want to whear since she is not the one who will be wearing it. I dont think you whould worry to much about what she thinks as long as you like it.
