My fancy tailed golfish

I have 2 fancy tailed goldfish or whatever their called. I used to have 1 balloon molly, a red velvet, a beta, an angelfish and a few more but they all died! I heard it was because goldfish are really dirty and a lot of amonia comes off of them. The beta lasted the longest to my surprise! I didnt even think he would make it. But does anyone know what other kinda fish I could put in with my 2 golfish ( their the ones with the big eyes and their really fat and they always suck on the bottom of the tank looking for food) ? I also have an eel and a pleco. I put a few feeder fish in the tank too to live with them and they usually last a while, until my boyfriend feed them to the oscars! But whenever I find them dead in my goldfish tank their at the bottom inder this rock thing with holes in it that I have and there are chunks missing out of them. Either the eel or the goldfish are eating them. I actually caught the goldfish eating one one day. Ew! Get back to me somone…I want more fish in tank that wont die so what kind can I get? Is there anything I can put in the water to lower the levels of amonia!? Help! Please & thanks

The feeders are most likely diseased. You should get a small plastic aquarium to hold the feeders in so they don’t introduce diseases to otherwise healthy fish.

Goldfish are VERY dirty and are not compatible with betas or angelfish. Angelfish are part of the cichlid family and betas are part of the chamberfish family. They can both be pretty aggressive and have different habitat requirements than goldfish.

Betas are better kept in tiny habitats as they are very aggressive. They are also commonly referred to as Chinese fighting fish and will fight to the death. They can stay in small aquariums with no heaters or aerators because of their unique way of breathing. They can also live for a long while in dirty conditions and little food (a survival technique for when water would dry up and they would end up in puddles in rice feilds.) But you should always maintain a clean environment and feed them regularly.

Goldfish fall into 3 different families and shouldn’t be mixed- (1) Pond Comets, (2) Fancy Goldfish including Orandas and Fantails, and (3) Very Fancy Goldfish including Bubble Eyes.
