hi I thought my dog had kennel cough and like you the meds were doing nothing, I went to a different vet and was advised that my dog had lung worm that he had picked up prob from eating a snail or digging . anyway I was given a course of specific worm tablets and low and behold within two days very long worms appeared. after a week the coughing stopped. apparently they migrate to the lungs and can be serious if not treated. they are often misdignosed as kennel cough. its worth saying it to the vet . good luck

Cory31 If the DA2PP is NOT for kennel cough, what is it for then and where did you get your info? If it isnt for that , then my Vet Tech med book I am studing for school is wrong…which I doubt…

I would see a vet, The Dog flu has the same symptoms as Kennal Cough. We just got the vaccine in at the hospital where I work. We are not putting in on our yearly protocal vaccines but we do have it for those owners who would like to vaccinated there dog. Ones that are in dog shows, get groomes, board or any high doggie traffic areas.

Answer #4

Kennel cough can be helped with meds. What meds is your dog taking for it? DO NOT vaccinate him while he is ill!!! Everyone should know this! The DA2PP vaccine is NOT for kennel cough. Once he is well enough, he could get the vaccine for it and it’s a nasal vaccine (in the nose). You can use either Nasaguard B or Progard KC. I use Progard KC on my puppies when they’re 4 weeks old with their vaccine regimen and have never had kennel cough going on. Vets usually give Clavamox anitibiotic for the treatment of kennel cough. Hope your dog gets well!

Answer #5

As far as I know, there is a vaccine for kennel cough, but it is not treatable w/ antibiotics. The vaccine itself is good for 3 or more years and is often given as a part of the core vaccine combo DA2PP. It can also be given IN as part of the kennel cough complex vaccine. I would get a second opinion with another vet or talk to your vet again. Kennel cough in dogs does not cause a high death rate, …recheck with your Vet for other options.

Answer #6

Kennel cough isn’t treatable with antibiotics…(the antibiotics are given to stave off bacterial infections because the virus can weaken the body). Normally they have to get over kennel cough on their own. 4 weeks is a long time, tho. I’d get him back in, so the Vet knows that he’s still got it. It may be something else.
