What makes a music/melod/tone "creepy"?

?? Like how do we grow to identify the sound as scary or fearful? What about it specifically that would give off the effect….

Answer #1

something that gives you the chills i guess lol

Answer #2

The note it’s played at/The instrument. Minor music will have a more creepy effects than Major.

Answer #3

I know but I am asking like what is it about that sound that makes it so scary and what part of us growing up taught us to interpret the noise as scary

Answer #4

its all about the suspense. The melody isnt smooth, they kind of dont work together and it gives this disconcerting effect. Then you chuck in some shrill string instruments and some really unexpected bangs and you will terrify people!

Answer #5

I sit in the dark and play the song. If I get creeped out then it’s creepy, LOL

Answer #6

a low growl … like before a bear eats you.

Answer #7

I agree with Lindsey, The Chords played, minor can have a sadder or more threathening sound and mjor chords ten to be happier sounding.

Answer #8

That’s a really good question. The more I think about it, the more it makes me think it’s related to the question, “Why is a horse called a horse?” Or, why is there 17 diff fruits instead of 3?” (lol, 17 is a guess). But you know what I mean? Maybe it’s one of those questions. Or maybe its like an instinct. As in, nobody tells us we need to swallow when we’re first born, we just do it by instinct.

Hope I’ve helped X)

Answer #9
