Moving out at 16

My boyfriend is 17 years old. He is moving back to my town after forever, and he wants me to move in with him. Would there be any way I could do this legally besides emancipation? I live in kansas, what are the laws?

Answer #1

Lets pretend you could- Where would you live? You cannot sign a lease until you are 18 years old. It is a legal binding contract. Do you have a job? Does he?

Answer #2

well you need to move back in because you don’t know what you are doing

love rere444 ps.but if they are makeing you mad just move to another room

Answer #3

Why would you want to move out at 16-years-old if you are already in a safe home? Especially since your boyfriend is already moving to your town, I don’t see why you’d move in with him, you are only 16-years-old. I’d wait till you are older and can afford it.

Answer #4

your to young and your boyfriend probably wont have a stable job at seventeen

Answer #5

Legal age is 18 – emancipation is the really only option you have .

Answer #6

Best Plan: education, ring, date, marriage, move-in, reach financial stability, then children - info: Legally, you must be the ‘age of majority’ for your state (usually 18) or become emancipated:

Emancipation refers to the point at which a child is free from parental control.

Emancipation may be the result of a voluntary agreement between the parents and child, or it may be implied from their acts and ongoing conduct. For example, a child who leaves her parents’ home and becomes ENTIRELY SELF-SUPPORTING without their objection is considered emancipated, while a child who goes to stay with a friend or relative and gets a part-time job is not. Emancipation may also occur when a minor child marries or enters the military.

In order to become emancipated you must be able to answer the above questions and be self supporting which means:

  • Have a job
  • Live in home or apartment
  • pay bills

Contact the Court office or a Professional Attorney in your immediate area for further assistance.

I wish you the best !!
