Can I move out at 17 in Michigan?

Me and my mom just are not getting along. The other night I asked her if I could get to know my real dad who has done stuff wrong in his life and she said no. I just want to leave. I have a little sister and I want to get to know her and my mom says that I have to wait the one year five months and seven days until my eighteenth birthday. She said that I have to wait and I don’t want to. I will be seventeen in twenty one weeks, and I want to leave then but I am scared she says that no matter what I have to wait. I and I don’t know the age, of it. Do you know for Michigan the legal age? I really need help. I got a place to go (My dad’s). Please help

You can file to be an emancipated teenager. I am not really sure of all of the legalities but i know that you can do that.

It sounds like you’re having a tough time with your mom. That sucks, but I wouldn’t be so keen on moving right in with your dad. How well do you know him, anyways? Chances are that your mom loves you (no matter how much you guys fight), and is trying to look out for you- not hold you back from something you want just to be a pain. Besides, you know the old saying “out of the frying pan, and into the fire”? There are no guarantees that living with your dad will be better. You should try to stick it out with your mom, but start to get to know your little sis and your father– just in case you can’t stand it anymore!

I did not get along with my parents at 17 either. I am 19 and moved out at 17 about 4 months before my 18 year birthday. I am doing ok and we get along much better now but it has not been easy for me these last few years at all.
