I have a motorola ve240 with cricket service and I tried to put ringtones on it with out having to buy them I have a micro sd card and have music on the phone I tried a few free ringtone websites but none worked

If Cricket’s anything like Virgin Mobile USA, you won’t be able to do this. They lock down the firmware so you can’t make changes.
