Monsters? Help!

My boyfriend is like addicted to caffeine and monsters. As in he drinks 3-5 a day. Lately he’s been feeling like he’s going to die… Lightheaded.. And such. So I made him stop drinking. Today he drank one… But he feels extremely sick. And I’m just really worried about him. How can I help him stop his cravings and get betterr?

Monster is 160 mg of caffeine per 16 oz. can. 10 mg/oz Brewed coffee has 107 mg of caffeine per 8 oz. cup 13.4 mg/oz Drip coffee has 145 mg of caffeine per 8 oz. cup 18.1 mg/oz Coffee is stronger per ounce.

This is not an area that I have much knowledge in, however it may be just his general diet. Monster has a lot of sugar and that might be giving his body a lot of energy without balanced nutrition. I know that if I snack on too many sweets (Oreo cookies are my weakness!!), my stomach feels real upset. Like almost vomiting. I have to go to some good protein (cheese, peanut butter sandwich, chicken, or steak) to calm it down. Or high quality bread. Nothing sweet or salty. Or for that matter, any ‘comfort’ food.

If he is feeling REALLY bad, yes, by all means encourage him to see a doctor!!

The both of you, take care, and Good Luck!!

One can being the equivalent of 125 cups of coffee is not possible—one can would cause caffeine overdose. Maybe you heard 125 mg per can—that makes more sense.

No one would be capable of drinking the equivalent of 125 CUPS of coffee in one sitting without becoming seriously ill or dying. (;

Answer #4

get him help right away.

Answer #5

Take him to a doctot. This sounds worse than I thought. Now one can has the caffiene equivalent of 125 cups of coffee. Let’s say his average is four a day. 4X125=500. Thats the caffeine equivalent of 500 cups of coffee.

More than likely it is some type of withdraw symptoms. The ingredients that give energy drinks energy, also increase the heart rate and increases w/ each drink ingested. The lightheadedness, nausea, and sick feeling should go away in a day or two, BUT—if he were to develop chest pains w/ nausea and numbness in the left arm, extreme heart rate fluctuations w/ the pulse feeling as if it is “fluttering” (palpations) or more lightheadedness he should see a Dr to examine him. Explain just as you did here as to what was going on w/ the energy drinks. They can treat him properly after examining him. Warnings say to not to exceed 4 of these drinks per day.

Caffeine addiction is just like any other addiction, when you give it up there are going to be withdrawals, it can make you feel sick to the stomach, give you headaches (which could cause lightheadedness), drowsiness, etc.. Imagine having the worst flu ever minus the congestion and you’ve got withdrawals. With caffeine the withdrawals usually aren’t as bad as most drugs, but considering the amount he was consuming I can’t say I’m surprised.. The reason why when he drank one he felt really sick after giving them up is because his body was fighting off the addiction and the bodies tolerance was going down, when he drank it after a while of not drinking them the caffeine hit him a lot harder then normal. And with the concentration of caffeine and sugar in monsters it’s no wonder he felt sick. He’ll get over feeling sick but I’d suggest to him and everyone out there to avoid caffeine, it is terrible for your body, it is almost as bad for you as alcoholic beverages. It’s a diuretic so it for one dehydrates you like alcohol, it is extremely hard for the liver and kidneys to process it like alcohol, and most caffeinated drinks like monster and sodas are filled with acids and sugars, and other chemicals that are also terrible for your body, so it’s double whammy on you. Last bit of advice about your boyfriend give him some aspirin and put him to sleep, he’ll feel a lot better when he wakes up and make sure he doesn’t drink anymore of that nasty shit, and if he does make sure to let him know to only do it in moderation, there is absolutely no reason someone should be drinking 5 energy drinks a day.
