Who knows if Mona Lisa was an actual person?

Why didn’t she have eyebrows?

Answer #1

I’m about 99% sure she was a real person. I think I’ve heard things about the painting originally having eyebrows, but through restoration of the painting and the overall aging they seem to have disappeared. Not sure on that though.

Answer #2

Yes she was a real person. Also at the time it was fashionable to shave of eyebrows so that may be the reason she does not have any. she also has no eyelashes in the painting so I am unsure.

Answer #7

Actually, when Mona Lisa first moved to the Luve museum, the janitor (more like a care take for the art work) was not told that Mona Lisa was not a sealed painting. That person was dusting as used some kind of liquid dusting stuff, when they went to wipe off the painting, there were no more eyebrows.

The owners of the museum did not want to alter the painting in any way, so instead up retouching it or sealing it, Mona Lisa now has a very thin plastic wrap around her that you can even see with the naked eye.
