if you’re gay and live in a state where same-sex marriage is illegal, then get married in a state where it is legal, then go back to your home state is your same-sex marriage still valid in that state?

It depends on the state. There are some states that do recognize it as a marriage, but most do not. Are you wondering about a certain state?

Sorry, I dont know the answer as I live in Britain but I will keep an eye on this page as its a very interesting question.

I imagine it may be similar to however the law works if you get married in a country where the age limit is lower than the state you live in. (In a male/female marriage)

E.G. One can marry in Britain at 16 and in some countries at 14.
