How exactly do majors and minors work?

I want to get a bachelors degree in Culinary Management, so would that mean thats what I’m majoring it? Or, are there a major and minor within that degree? Because I want to open my own bakery, and need a back up plan incase that doesn’t work out, so would like a minor or have a double major in something else so I can fall back on that. But yeah,, haha how does it exactly all work?

You’re correct-if you want to get your bachelor’s in Culinary Management, that’s your major. A minor would be another area of study you would focus on, but you wouldn’t be required to take as many classes that apply to that subject and you wouldn’t learn as much about it. Some schools require minors, some don’t. I’m actually adding a minor this semester as a backup plan, so I agree that it’s a smart idea. A double major would just mean that you have two areas of study but you would have to focus equally hard on them. It’s generally based on credit hours. My school requires 30 credit hours per major (so that would mean roughly 10 classes in the subject of that major) and only 18 for a minor. Really, it’s up to you what you want to do. I would recommend talking to an advisor, but if you really think you can handle a double major you should go for it.
