Why does my macbook freeze after like a minute of being online?

Very recently, my laptop (macbook) has been giving me the rainbow-wheel-of-death and freezing after only a very sort time of me being online. It’s only when I am on online (safari is the only browser I use), and it seems to be when I go on hotmail though I don’t know for certain that it’s only on hotmail. My desktop isn’t messy, and the computer is quite ‘clean’ and regularly sorted out and crap-trashed. What could this be?

Answer #1

I have a macbook too and well what generation is it? Do you turn it off at night?

Answer #2

I had a macbook that started to freeze like that, and when it had been like that for perhaps 4 months, it died :( The processor was ruined. This was an older one without the Intel processor. I never got any explanation as to why this happened, but the older processors just was not that good as the Intel’s.

Hm. Disk space is critical with laptops. Make sure you have at least 15-20Gb free at all times. If you have the space, your next step would be to monitor the temperature of your computer. As you know, Macbooks don’t come with ventilation fans like some laptops so the heat isn’t moved as efficiently. When you system gets really hot, the computer will run slow and simple applications will cause it to crash.

You can use SMC fan control or something of that nature to monitor the temperature.

Answer #4

Not sure what generation it is, but it’s not super new. I don’t turn it off at night- should I?
