I really need some advice as I don't know if what my employer did to me was right or not. I previously had questions about how I'd been out of work for 5 months after being made redundant, and was having no luck finding a job. I then told you guys that I found my perfect job working in a printing company doing admin/graphic design. Well I'd been working there for 2 weeks. Everything was fine and I was enjoying it. I struggled on some things but was quickly learning & did my best to impress. There was only me and the boss working there (he owns the business). After a week of working I noticed a woman had come in and spoken with the boss in private. I didn't think much of it. Today I was told was my day off. I just checked my email to find that I had an email from my boss saying, and I quote; "SORRY TO SAY, YOUR POSITION IS FILLED. FOUND ANOTHER LADY, WITH LOTS MORE EXPERIENCE...NO NEED FOR YOU TO COME IN AGAIN BUT IF SHE DOESN' T WORK OUT... I'LL CALL YOU. BECAUSE YOU WOULD BE MY NEXT CHOICE..."
Did I just get fired with no warning??? Can he do that?? What the hell? I'm so upset, what do I do, I'm back to square 1!!! cries :(
My experience is almost identical to yours. I left a great company because I applied and was offered a role at another company which I felt would mean career progression for me. I started in early July and it was going smoothly, providing support to the CEO/owner of the company. I felt I was doing well and getting on extremely well with my boss. So you can imagine my shock when just two weeks into the job, he called me in to his office. It was a Friday too. He was apologetic and explained that sometimes as a business owner he had to take difficult and tough decisions. My heart sank. Apparently the previous jobholder who had been promoted to another area of the company wasn't getting on very well with the new manager and waneted to come back to the role. My boss said that as the previous person had been with the company for 20 years and had worked for him he had no choice but to take them back. It felt like a bad nightmare. I have a very long and steady career history and never experienced this sort of thing before. I was offered a couple of other roles but they were not on par and I didn't want to remain in the company another second. To lessen the blow somewhat I was paid the two weeks I worked plus an extra month’s salary. But I would have rather had a job and not started searching all over again. It's been about three weeks since I left. The job search continued immediately. I've had a couple of interviews but no offers yet. I hope one is forthcoming very soon and it should be the right job and company too. The whole experience has been very hard and it's been difficult to remain motivated to keep searching. I somehow push on regardless.
I was told originally that I got the job. It was 4 days per week. I had no idea I was filling in until someone 'better' came along! I was never given any kind of job description or anything formal. I was verbally told that I had the job 2 weeks ago and could I come in the next day. So I did, and I was just working straight away. No real training, was just learning as I went. I gave him my bank details and he said I would get paid once a month. I haven't been paid yet & am worried I won't see any money at all now??!!
You most likely had a probationary period, or at will employment, either way, move on because going to the labor board etc is costing you time, gas, and money for what? If they could get you your job back would you want to still work there? Find another job and get over it!
Two weeks of employment would sound to me like probationary...tho it also depends on if you live in a "right to work" state. If that's the case they can lay you off or fire you at any time they want.
p
He still owes you for the days you worked at the very least.
Like I said, though, call the labour board - if he wronged you, they will tell you how to fight it.
That depends...were you filling a temporary position and were you on a probationary period?
If not, then you were wrongly dismissed. Call the labour board.
I just lost my job. Things happen for a reason. Perhaps this event is meant to push you toward searching for something more rewarding. Just don't give up.
wow that sucks. im sorry, but I wish I couold help. I don't have a job so I wouldnt know how 2 help u.
Okay I'll get over it. Sorry I was upset when I wrote this as it had only just happened.
