How long does heroin stay in the placenta?

This is in mature questions and i think the people would like a mature answer.

I can rephrase it if you’d prefer. Why would you ingest heroin in the first place. What sort of irresponsible and selfish person acts with complete disregard to the risk they are placing the fetus in. Heroin does serious damage to the baby. It is high inadvisable to be using any sort of drug that could serious impair the baby. I dont see how putting it differently changes the message though…

And this is why I think certain people should not be allowed to have children. Would you inject heroin into the baby when it is outside the womb? No? Well what makes it any different. It’s going straight into the baby’s blood stream. It will leave the placenta when it is no longer in the mother’s body. Of course the brain damage and the other organ damage isn’t going to disappear.

WOW you guys… you want to HONESTLY know why i asked this question? My sister has been clean for just about 10months and last weekend she slipped up i guess and smoked $10 worth of the crap! And shes just 2 1/2 months pregnant, and she’s worried that because she slipped a little that there will still be drugs in the meconium or her placenta 7months from now.. i asked the question so i can give her some advice!! Just trying to do the right thing for her, because she was honest with me about slipping up… and i know that any drugs are bad when ur pregnant, but it was i guess only $10 worth and it was smoked… so im trying to figure this out for her

If she wants advice she needs to check herself into rehab so she doesn’t slip again. What has $10 worth of crap got to do with anything? Would she put that into the baby’s body when it’s born? No? Well how is this any different. Except the first 4 months are the most crucial and the time you can do the most damage. It’s not ok, and it’s not just a tiny slip. She’s going to be a mother. She can’t slip… What happens if she gets high when she’s taking care of her baby? I’m not being judgmental here, I’m really not. I understand addiction is hard. But that’s why you make the responsible decision and not have kids when you’re still struggling.
