Home More advice Parents & Family
I was a foster kid when I was a baby and am now looking to locate my foster parents and sister. I live in AZ and would like some insight as to where to begin the process on locating them. Does anyone know the procedure for locating foster families, etc....? Maybe an attorney in AZ I can speak with regarding adoptions or fostering?? I would really appreciate any help I can get. Thank you all in advance.....
I recommend that you contact the:
Arizona Department of Economic Security (Division of Children, Youth and Families)
I believe that they can provide personal help as well as documents outlining your rights etc..
For example, they supply the document referenced: FSC-1037A FORNA (7-10), entitled "Notice of Rights for Children and Youth in Foster Care"
available for download as a .pdf file from: "https://www.azdes.gov/InternetFiles/Reports/pdf/FSC-1037AFORNA_net.pdf
..... which includes a section headed "If you are at least 16 years of age ..."
wherein you will find a comment that assures that you have a right to:
"Receive help with obtaining a driver license, Social Security Number, birth certificate or state identification card. "
as well as
"... to receive personal information within thirty days after leaving foster care including your birth certificate, immunization records, and education and health information. "
The above does not necessarily guarantee that you have a right to locate former foster parents / foster siblings, but nevertheless, it implies that that particular Department has access to the relevant records to enable you to do so.
Good luck with your quest.
