Emotions are best read when you're in tune with everything a person is saying, both verbally and non-verbally. This means listening to what they say, but also listening to how they say it. People often express happiness or pain in great depths when they're not saying anything at all. Their body language is the key. Do they smile when they say what they're saying? Or do they sigh, look down at the ground, bite their lip, chew on their finger nails, shrug, tense up or anything else? The whole key to reading how a person feels is by focusing completely on them and tuning out everything else. Listen to what they say. Ask questions, if you need to understand better. Watch how they react. With practice, it will come easier to you.
In order to pick up emotion, you're basically looking at body language. Which is really an art more than anything else. I guess a few things I would look at are appearance (how is the person dressed, are they neat or not, clean, etc), how they present themselves (how are they sitting, how are they standing, are the fidgeting a lot, are they not moving), affect (so like how is the person speaking, is it slow or halted speech, speaking too quickly, etc), their speech (look at what sort of words being used). Basically you're looking at them and trying to figure out what little bits of information are telling you in the big picture. It is guess work, but if you're trained it is educated guess work.
i think you should understand the person first...like what they are going through.. let them talk to you about whats going on like basically let them pour out their thoughts and then tell them what you think is right or what you would have done if it was you in their place : ) hope i helped!
In order to read people's emotions, you must first get to know the person. Practice on siblings, friends, and parents before trying your luck on strangers. Mentalists can read emotions and body language amazingly well on strangers but to get like that you must first research and practice.
