Are my periods late from pregnancy or menopause?

I am 40 years old and I have always had regular periods on a 28 day cycle. My husband and I have been trying for a baby for 8 months . I am now 5 days late for my period and I have tried two different types of pregnancy test which have both been negative. Why have I suddenly started to have a lae period- have I started my menopause?

My feeling would be that either the stress of trying to have a baby could be delaying your period. Unless there is an history of early menopause in your family, usually it does not start at 40, I am 45 and keep hoping and praying for menopause every day because then it is one less pill I have to take! :)
Raised my daughter, she is now 19. You may want to check with your physician if your period does not start within a reasonable period of time.
