I guess these would be my top 10 - in the sense that they are the things that occurred to be first. Good music was what immediately came to mind when I read your question, because it never fails to raise my spirits to the highest levels of contentment no matter what adversity I may from time to time be faced with.
10.A good sense of humour. 9. Adequate financial means. 8.Security (against criminals, terrorists, natural disasters etc.) 7. The respect of colleagues and acquaintances. 6. Good health. 5. A comfortable home with attractive well maintained gardens. 4. Good company (i.e. friends and respected relatives). 3. Good food. 2. Good sex. 1. Good music.
Thankfully, I have all of these things in abundance and could not wish for anything beyond what is readily available to me.
Assuming your basic needs are met you don't need things to be happy; you have to be happy with your things.
Lots of people are wealthy, powerful, and respected yet are miserable while lost of others barely scrape by but are happy.
There is no way to happiness, happiness is the way. Playing catch with your son, traveling, being at peace with your thoughts.
