Does Melatonin have bad effects?

Is the Hormone Melatonin bad for you and does it have any side effects because I always wake up hours before I should when I take Melatonin Thanks in Advance Frank

Answer #1

Speaking of stress and sleep, your doctor must have told you to take YOUR stress out on people who ask a simple question about a dietary supplement/sleep pattern aid. You seem like your just sad and lonely enough to condescend to the little old ladies asking what kind of tylenol is best for headaches at the pharmacy checkout. Any information that MIGHT have gotten put in that rant you call a post will be ignored because you were an asshole about it. Grow the f*ck up, if you don’t have anything important to add other than “your so stupid, idiot” then get out of your parents basement and go get some exercise.idiot

Melatonin is great. Its all natural and it allows you to go to sleep and get a better night’s sleep. I’m not sure why you wake up before you should, except maybe your body got all the rest it needed for that amount of time. There are no side effects, and you cannot get hooked on it.

Well.. the above answer pretty much says it all! Melatonin has literally no toxic effects and there are -several- studies being conducted currently on its use for everything from Alzheimer’s to cognitive and learning dysfunctions. I think the most common use Melatonin is recognized for is in insomniacs to alleviate a poor circadian rhythm. The big thing to remember is to not take Melatonin with any other drugs (prescription or otherwise) without talking to your PCP. Note: If you take an MAO Inhibitor the concurrent use of Melatonin can cause an overdose–MAOI’s are generally restricted to a selective population because of the side effects but that’s an entirely different post!

Geez, people get over yourselves. The information posted by “funadvice” was the most accurate posted here.Just because you don’t agree with him/her doesn’t mean YOU have to be rude either! Too much melatonin can have bad effects on thyroid and cause weight gain.Just because something is sold over the counter doesn’t mean it’s safe.Melatonin supplements ARE NOT regulated by the FDA.

Answer #5

yeah a**… if you even read the about.com link you posted you would see that it is basically telling to go and consult your doctor first. Just like they tell you with any thing else.

And Berkly link done a study on quail, If you really want to fight for something, why don’t you go out there and tell all the health nuts that the pink bag of sugar can cause cancer? You might save a few more lives that way.

Before answering such post, or better not DON’T.

What makes the people stupid up is some one like you. Till you can show some real conclusive source’s that state how horrible it is, I would not be posting such comments especially on something like this.

If you want a real argument on this just tell people to try to get sleep before turning to supplement. Other then that leave it alone.
