Intrusion detection

I believe my ex husband and his wife hacked my computer to steal information I have emailed to my attorney, I have verizon wireless and couldn’t get on my internet last night because another user was currently on…today the ex calls my daughter with info in the letters to the attorney is there a way I can tell he did this, is it illegal to have him access my info I know he has gone on line and pulled my credit report which is illegal, who do I report this to

Technically - this would fall under computer forensics. Its all about (as my professor once said) “Placing the idiot at the keyboard”

I was a CF major before I opted to go into the Pharmacy world…

It could technically be as simple as calling to inquire as to what I.P. address signed on under your name lastnight … but that would be their judgement as to whether or not they would relay that info to you.

I would: Immediately change my password and change it to something more complicated that has NO relation to you. Something like… Frostbite86 It sounds ridiculous I know, but trust me - things that have NO relation to you, are the most secure.

Do not store your password anywhere on your computer, under your keyboard, in a nearby drawer. Try to simply remember it and if you must write it down, leave it on a card in your wallet where only you could access it and know what it is in reference to.

Call Verizon and tell them you feel your account has been compromised, call the credit bureus and put an alert on your credit report - tell them you want it monitored as you feel you are at risk for being a victim of identity theft.

If you can prove they pulled your credit report - That is illegal and one VERY LARGE offense. By law, they do not have the write without your consent to access your credit report.

If you feel that this truly happened, look into your local PD and see if they have a CF unit and if so - relay the information to them. If you really want to go into detail…

They could seize his computer and run a string search via software with things such as your SS#. If he indeed had that somewhere on his computer - it will turn up.

Also unbeknownst to most people, all of your IM’s, chat sessions, everytime you check an email via your computer: its stored on your computer. His cookies would also prove this.

Honestly if I were to do this - I would say its an open and shut case as if he did indeed hack into your account ~ it would be so easy to prove.

Answer #2

talk to your attorney maybe he can get some paperwork filed to have the verizon people give up that info

and about the credit report I would call the FBI

Answer #3

Talk to your lawyer, first of all. He needs to know what he’s up against, and this can be used as evidence against your ex.

It is a crime to hack into someone’s computer, but unless you can prove it, it’s heresy.

Call the police and ask them what your options are, and contact your isp to see if there’s any way they can track something like that.
