Answer #1

Gauging a piercing is the practice of slowly stretching the opening and skin around a piercing to the desired circumfrence.

It is ALWAYS best to talk to a professional piercer when guaging your own piercings to be sure you are doing it safely and to prevent any tears, infections, etc.

Guaging should be done slowly over time. Never push your skin too far and as a general rule i wouldn’t up your guages more than once every 4-6 months so that you can be sure its had time to heal properly.

Always wash your hands before attempting to apply a bigger guage. Take your time and slowly insert the guage into your ear. A slight stinging and burning is normal and should go away. If the piercing bleeds you need to remove the guage immediatly and put in a smaller one until the wound heals completely before trying again.

Uping your guages can be made more comfortable by inserting them in the showers with warm water running or by using petroleum jelly.

Remember however, that once you have stretched your skin to a certain point it is permanant and can only be fixed by cosmetic surgery.

“Gauge” refers to how big the piercing is. I think you’re talking about stretching?

Answer #3

I would be careful with stretching your ear. Some poeple get addicting to it and keep stretching it and then when you get older you don’t want this big sagging hole in your ear and it won’t just heal up, you would need surgery to get it back together.
