It depends on how often you write. The more you write the better results you’ll get. I like to enter writing contest to see what’ll happen and it’s a great way to practice. Join a forum on fictionpress and see if anyone is offering some writing chalanges you’ll see yourself improve. ^^

While the expression practice makes perfect is true is many cases, there are other things to consider. To write better, you need to first have a good grasp of spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Without those key elements, you’ll never be able to improve upon your skills. I’d advise you to take a course in writing or language skills to make sure you have a god base. From there, you can start by writing short stories or articles and get opinions from other people (preferably someone with the skills you’re trying to acquire). Reading the work of other people in the field can really help give you an idea of which direction to take and how to employ key words and interest into your writing.
