What should I do, im scared to love again...?

Theres this guy whose a family friend. Our mums are close and have joked around with getting us together. His 4 years older than me, we recently hanged out and we keep texting each other and his mum is excited and told my mum about it.

When we went out with other people he picked me as his like ‘partner’ kind of thing and he paid for me in the movies and he would mention that girls asks him if his gay cos he doesnt seem to have gf’s and he would tell me ‘Want me to kiss you?’ to like give me a message that he isnt. His fun to be with and i kinda like him, but when we talk he would look at me dead in the eyes and you would feel how he feels if you get what I mean? I feel like he wants to find love, have it, cherish, experience it and wants it. I would feel that need from him but I onced had it, gave my all and tried make it work for 2 years but it was just all a lie. And im afraid to do it again and be like that to someone and in the end might get hurt again.. Its been 5 months since our break up, what should i do?

Well the experience of love is worth trying for. If you hold back, you lose anyway. So, might as well try right?:)
