I want to move out

im 16 years old, and my friend has a basement suite that her mom rents out and I need to move out of my parents house realy bad, can I move out

Answer #1

Ugh it takes a while even to get emancipated. You might try living with someone else but of course you gotta get that aproved by your parents. You probably will have to wait it out. I turn 18 tomorrow and they can just say hey get the ef out and I cant do anything.

Answer #2

unfortunately not. you would have to go through emancipation, but that is a very difficult process, regardless of what anyone tells you. If you just left your parent could report you as a runaway. Which im sure you know. If anything, I would talk to a school or county social worker about your circumstance and why living with your parents is unsuitable for you. But regarding how the goverment is with emancipation, you really have to be in a very difficult enviornment to be taken out of it.

Answer #4

The laws vary by state, and not all states have emancipation laws. In the states without emancipation laws, the only way to become emancipated is by (1) turning 18 (2) getting (legally) married (3) joining the military (which minors have to have parental consent to do). In the states that do have emancipation laws: generally, you petition the court for a declaration of emancipation. You have to prove that you are capable of supporting yourself (and that means of support can not be public assistance). You also have to prove that it’s in your best interest to be emancipated. That’s not always an easy thing to do. The courts generally don’t like to override the authority of parents, so you would have really prove your case. The courts then decide rather to grant or deny your petition. It is not a quick and easy process.
