I need help to stop a computer addiction.

The title says it all. For 1-2 years I’ve been on the computer a lot. Like somedays 12 hours others 7. I’ve tried to stop myself by setting time limit, this did not work. My dad takes it from me for sometime, I bug him to get it back. My parents say this addiction is runing my life, which is it. My dad said it is runing my social life. The only reason I play for long periods of time is because my friends are always busy. I just need help im tired of my parents and I getting into fights about it. And once the fights are done I hope right back on the computer. If someone could give me steps on how to stop, I will try my hardest to do them.

Thanks for all your help!

Why don’t you take a long walk or visit some friends. You also choose some board games for more festivity!

lol, I used to be practically addicted to the sims awhile ago… I mean like playing it from the time I got home from school till the time I went to sleep. it was just an escape. I was bored, home life wasent perfect, I couldnt always hangout with my friends… …and I wasted a good ammount of my time to it too…

how old are you? try getting a job… atleast that will keep you buzy, and youll be earning money and doing something productive, you know?

or… try volunteering at a homeless shelter or soup kitchen, or the spca if you really like animals (you can walk dogs, or play with the cats… it helps them get used to being around people, which makes them friendlier, which boosts their chances of getting adopted.) …and keep track of all the hours of service you do!!! make that your game. only this one will actually make you a better person, help shape your character, and teach you valuable life lessons… not to mention you can get crazy ammounts of scholarships for doing a lot of community service… and it looks VERY good on a resume!!

…im in college now, and I keep track of all the time I volunteer anywhere… on a future-career-job application, imagine how impressive straight A’s and 100+ hours of community service looks!…and if your younger, if you start now… you could EASILY surpass 100 hours…

I think this might be the answer to your problems, honestly…

think of it as a game. you obviously want to change your habbit… and the first step is honestly admitting you have a problem. which is what you already have done. the next step is finding a subsitiution!! give community service a try! remember… homeless shelter, spca, soup kitchen, redcross, whatever… just get out there! …I don’t know if you are good with elderly people… but before my grandmother passed away of cancer, a group of girls would come every tuesday and paint their nails… it honestly gave them all so much joy, and a sense of pride in themselves… it gave her something to look forward to… and it was very heartwarming… maybe try something like that?

…do you have any future careers in mind? try to get involved service in a field related to that
