I got jumped outside of my job can I collect unemployment if I quit

So today as I was leaving work and I got jumped. I am not quite sure who the person was, but I know who had me jumped. I work with this person and I’m pretty tired of this person and I would really like to quit. My question is can I quit my job and still collect unemployment.

Answer #1

You can only collect unemployment if you’re fired usually and you have to have enough credits built up. You had to have worked somewhere for atleast a year, I believe. Every state is different. Your best bet is to contact your local Unemployment Agency in your town or the surrounding area.

So, thanks all for the advise I did call the cops and I will talk to my employer later. I’m just trying to figure out what my options are before I talk to them.

I think you can only collect unemployment if you worked full time and were fired; the government won’t give you free money because you quit working! No matter the reason why.

Answer #4

Probably but you may have a couple week waiting period before you can start collecting.

I’m sure there is a protocol you must follow in order to collect unemployment under this circumstance. I’d check it out before I dumped my job. Keep in mind also, that unemployment only lasts a short time…and jobs are hard to find right now.

If this other person works with you, then report it. There are pretty stringent rules about employee behavior…and getting physical is usually a one way ticket to being fired.

You work with this person, and they jumped you?

Unemployment won’t help you unless you’ve made efforts to remedy the situation first and have been unable to make your environment safe.

You first have to tell your employer, and you have to make a report to the police. Only after that, if you still feel threatened, unemployment MAY help you but you have to plead a pretty good case.

It’s too easy to try and swindle the benefits program, don’t you think? They’re not going to just give you money without any evidence of trauma.
