Here's a hypothetical situation for you all. What do you think about it?

What if “Mr. R” was your husband/wife?

“Mr. R, a twenty-eight year old engineer, has been on dialysis for three years and is growing desperate because of the restrictions it places on his life. He cannot work regularly because of the amount of time he has to spend in a dialysis center, and he feels weak and is suffering from many of the debilitating side effects of the treatment.

Mr. R has already investigated the possibility of obtaining a transplant. However, he was adopted as an infant and does not know his natural family. In addition, tests show that he has a rare tissue type that makes it highly unlikely that a suitable cadaver kidney can be found.

Mr. R’s physical and mental states continue to deteriorate, and his wife suggests a solution to the transplant surgeon. She will, she said, become pregnant and after five or six months have an abortion. The kidneys from the fetus could then be transplanted in her husband.

The surgeon knows that technically such a transplant could be performed, and that the graft would probably not be rejected. He also knows that Mr. R has threatened to commit suicide if he has to remain on dialysis for an indefinite period.

Should he agree to transplant the kidneys of a deliberately conceived and aborted fetus?”

Answer #1

I just asked a question without phrasing it as a question. Freaking magic, man.

Answer #2

That’s a real touchy situation, there are many different ways to handle this situation, some the best and some not. I don’t know what I would do for sure until I’m in the situation but I feel like there’s another baby that can be made, since it hasn’t grown up yet or even came out of the mother, but a new husband with the same connection and the same memories can’t be made.

Answer #3

Other than the idea that a fetuses organs would be far to small i see no issue. but that’s the reason stem research is would be so beneficial cause they could use labs to in theory grow you any new organ from your own embryo’s.

Answer #4

if those infant sized kidneys would work, and thats something that both him and his wife have agreed to live with if successful.

Go for it.

Answer #5

I’m pretty sure it’s illegal to have an abortion once you’re past a certain time so I doubt the doctor would do it. According to the law, having an abortion at five or six months is murder. And finding his real family isn’t an option??

Answer #6

It’s not questioning laws, this is just about your morals. Finding his family isn’t an option. You have to choose.

Answer #7

Laws are based on morals so I stand by laws. :)

Answer #8

Today laws are based on corporate interests, abortion debates in politics are just a distraction from real issues, so put yourself in any of their place and tell us … what would you do?

Answer #9

Well okay then. If that’s what makes you happy.

Answer #10

LOL Chakan, maybe your laws!
