What does this howling mean?
i have 3 dogs… 2 german shepherd mixes and one lab mix… my mom and i just randomly started to fake howl to see if they would do anything.. soon enough both german shepherd mixes were howling ( especially my biggest one).. i could tell that all three were excited because they were all acting hyper… when dogs howl back.. what does it mean??
it could mean they are identifying themselves to another dog or it could be to communicate that they are the dominate one there or that they want you to stay away because this is there territory
It’s probably just them communicating themselves to you. They’re excited, they can’t talk, so they howl or bark.
They think you are howling to rally the pack for a hunt, so they howl back to signal that they are exited and ready to go! It might be a little disorienting for them if you then try to calm them down right afterward, but it can be a fun and playful introduction to a trip outside if there’s a safe place you can take them off-leash.
