How to groom my toy poodle

I just got a toy poodle he is a little guy but the lady I got him from did not do very good with keeping up with him I would like to know how to groom him from bathing to brushing to ears and teeth and how do I get rid of the redish color under his eyes and off his feet.

It doesn’t take much to have a groomer do them the first time and less if you take them back to keep them up. Call around and get some prices, check the newspaper for coupons. Petsmart and Petco have online coupons, for grooming products and free shipping for products to groom your pet

If you go to the library, I have found some great books on clipping poodles and their up keep. I just so happened to check out a book today called “Poodles for Dummies” that was on the new book shelf but the copyright is 2007 so it has been out for awhile.

Got another that looks good called “It’s a Dog’s Life but It’s Your Carpet” everything you ever wanted to know about your four-legged friend.

Libraries are great sources for information and every pet owner should have at least one good reference book on your dog. Look them over at the library find one you like and then purchase it on eBay or Amazon to have for reference.

Just don’t let this stay out of control because your poodle can get skin diseases from being unkept too long

They all have tear stains…and there is supposedly stuff that will remove them, but everybody I know has just accepted that they are there. He may have some Apricot genes in him, also, which could account for the “stained” appearance of his feet…

I’d take him to a professional groomer to get a “start” on his coat, giving a feel for what he should look like. Then go from there, keeping his ears and body brushed out. If you aren’t showing, most groomers just keep them in a puppy cut, keeping the hair on their faces, feet, and tail short short…with the body and legs left a little longer…a tufts on the head, tail, and ears.

A SOFT slicker brush should do the trick to keep him fluffed up…be sure to feel the wires tho, to insure it’s a soft one. Any pet store will have them.

Bathing and brushing is basic - do it like you would any dog. That goes for toothbrushing as well.

If you’re looking for trimming and styling, I recommend you take him to a professional groomer.
