How to get my dog to stop chewing on blinds.

I just got a 2 year old yellow lab towards the end of December, and recently he was started chewing on everything. He has chewed up the blinds on the window twice. How can I get him to stop chewing one the blinds.

Answer #1

awww!! the poor thing is probably teething if it’s still as young as 2!! give him a chew toy, a tennis ball or a bone to distract him from the blinds!! and whenever he comes near to chewing your house down! yell at him - showing him that what he’s doing is wrong!

Answer #2

If you are not there to correct him then crate train him.

Answer #3

try to show him that the blinds are bad just try experiments like everytime he goes to bite the blinds do something he doesnt like and eventually he will think the blinds are doing this. house train him and give him treats when he stays away and doesnt chew. also you could put up barriers. scold him and be strict. if it doesnt work ask experts or remove the blinds for some time. also give him lots of chew toys and bones to keep his teeth busy maybe he just wants to excersise his mouth. I hope it works! good luck xxx

Answer #4

If he goes nears the blinds and starts chewing pull him away and make noises like EEH! Or, EET! And also try saying ‘Is that yours?’ Thats what I do to my dog when she eats something shes not sopused to.

He’s BORED…Labs are notorious chewers anyway, but a bored dog is out right destructive…

He needs to be exercised everyday…EVERYDAY…It takes about 15 minutes a day to run him thru basis obedience (sit, down, stay, come)…this is mentally stimulating…

…can you use a blanket or something to cover the window for say a month?? Time for him to “forget” about the shades, and instead incorporate a toy box for him into the living room or kitchen…with a variety of shapes and sizes and textures of toys, bones, balls…to keep his interest??

I have always had one in my living room for my dogs, and any guest dogs…I have never had a single bit of damage to anything…(the toy box I have is in the background of the pic…I just painted it to look ok, it’s an apple box)…
