how many years do I need to work to get retirement checks and benefits when I get 65 if I get there but its just curiosity any answer is welcome thank you.
You need to work 40 quarters to qualify for Social Security benefits. You need to work at least 10 years to get benefits but the benefits themselves are calculated based your 35 best inflation adjusted earning years so if you only work 10 years they will be averaged with 25 zeros.
If you have a company pension plan (getting rare these days) than your plan will have its own rules. Generally once you are vested you qualify for benefits but the benefits will be based on length of service and your pay. Of course 401k and 403b plans and IRAs are investment accounts rather than defined benefit plans.
