Answer #2

yea, it does vary. for some people it only takes one smoke. but some people smoke every now and then (like once or twice a year) and are fine so I guess they never really get addicted.

Answer #3

Honestly, addictions are different for every person. I smoke. But I don’t believe in addictions. I think it is a state of mind. So it varies

Answer #4

Some people can get hooked from the very first puff..some have their first puff and never have one again. Like they said ^^ It varies. Some people can control their mind more easily to not smoke..I kind of agree with trizzella..addictions are sort of a state of mind. Which is why phsycologists claim that they can sort out addictions with hypnosis..

Answer #5

Thats a good question, never gets old (: I would agree that this is a state of mind. Everything is controlled by your brain, if you are a smart kid then smoking (or any kind of addiction) wont hurt. I have not smoked a lot, just about 50 cigarettes in half a year … I dont feel addicted, it comes and it goes, with your feelings, helps to relax and get your toughts together… It would be interesting to listen to what I will tell about that in 20 years, but I know that this wont hurt my life. (: I just wont let it to. Its not a good idea to keep yourself away from trying smoking/drinking, just keep controll over that, and keep in mind that this is not a good thing to do. And everything will be just fine :) Nobody likes it the first time btw (: gl in living your life!

Im 14 years old and a smoker, I have tried to quit but it just doesnt work, Because its not a set amount that I smoke in a day I cant ween myself off, What I suggested to my parents was for them to buy me smokes and just buy them less and less until I finally quit, personally I dont care either way… but id like to be able to breathe after a run XD but anyhow I personaly started with 1 a week or 1 a year like you guys were talking about, then I just had more access to them so I chain smoked, now im addicted D=

Answer #7

Dear kneck1, The rule of thumb is two weeks for smoking…of course this varies with people. Addictions are created by a need. To keep it simple the brain likes the stimulation of what you are doing. It eventually craves it and the brain becomes altered. Parts of the body learns to depend on it and more is usually needed to keep every part of the brain and body happy. So this is why people most often need to ween off of a drug and most cannot go cold turkey. Smoking is the biggest addiction for most people because of many variable such as acceptance, availability and the amount people smoke. Is it a state of mind not really because the mind is altered so just thinking it away doesn’t work. It effects the whole body that is why you have withdrawals with any type of addiction. Contrary to many pot smokers do suffer withdrawals in many forms. We all know how smokers handle withdrawals and it isn’t pretty. Sue…good luck
