How do you scream properly?

Ok for starters im not in a band quite yet these dudes I know need a new singer/screamer and I’ve accepted that im not good of a singer but im determined to learn how to scream good I’ve practiced a lot and experimented around I have a low voice so it’s a little difficult to get higher screams I have absolutely no problem doing deep screams/growls etc. just the high ones I have problems with. Usually when I try to get it out it sounds like a loud whisper (not sure if that made sense) and I can get it louder but that makes my throat vibrate and it kinda strains my throat. Really my goal is to learn how to scream like Dennis from Alesana or James vegas from Modern Day Escape or Craig Mabbitt from well im sure everyone knows who he is lol and like that dude who does most of the screams in the new blessthefall (I forget his name) I’m open to all suggestions and advice thanks

You can cheat and use voice processors that add distortion. Music technology is wonderful these days.

Answer #2

I wouldn’t cheat, because you’d sound terrible live and such if you did get into that band, hmm, high screams are not something I’m particularly good at myself, I tend to drift towards the lower end as well. All I can really offer you is make sure you’re screaming for your diaphragm, and drink lots of waters, also, always do a warm up and warm down or you could potentially screw your voice over.

Alesana is amazing. :D I really don’t know how. I’m a chick.. I know what you mean by ‘loud whisper’ I usually do that. The best thing to do is keep practicing… cause I really don’t know. Sorry hun. Good luck with the band! :D
