How do you make yourself happy?

Theres nothing too wrong with my life, im not neglected or abused or anything, but somehow I never feel happy for more than a few days. Im pretty sure I have depression, I’ve seen counselors and had to go to rehab last year, but it didn’t help, even when I tried. I’ve turned to drugs and alcohol and all that, its only good for the moment. Im still in high school and I just want to know if anyone knows how to snap out of this b/c I’ve felt like this since 7th grade, how do you stay happy?

This is a common problem among many people. And it is very hard to deal with. I know that many people can tell you to do all sorts of stuff, or you can turn to drugs or alcohol, or try medication or therapy, but really the only thing that is going to help you is YOU.. You need to look deep inside yourself and find out who you really are.. What do you like? Who are your true friends? What really makes you happy? What upsets you in life? Find out all about YOU YOU YOU and go from there.. Do the things you like.. Do NOT do something you don’t like. Obviosly you must be saying… Ya, I already knew that.. but NO really.. STOP and think… Many people in this day in age are beginning to do “what everyone else is doing” just because everyone else is doing it, doesn’t mean you have to!! Right?!? Also.. Thinking and knowing that you may depressed is a good 1st step.. Admitting you need help, is also very good!! But.. Meds.. Drugs.. people… counseling will help.. but will NOT cure.. You can only cure yourself and it will take a lot of time, pain and energy, but I have faith in you!! Exercise more… It lets out anger, strong emotions, and energy.. Think positive thoughts… When you look in the mirror and tell yourself “I look like crap, Or.. I wish I was skinnier” Find at least one good thing about yourself… Tell yourself Your outfit looks gorgeous on you! or Your eyes look beautiful today… Or.. maybe your tummy looks a little flabby today, but check out those nice legs of yours.. Just find one good thing at a time.. Don’t worry about the negative stuff.. You’re the only one who can find the negative in you, noone else deos!! And if they do find negative in you, you shouldn’t care about them or their thoughts anyways, they are NOT worth your time!! Don’t just sit at home and think.. The mind is a powerful powerful thing… and if you allow it to, it will think and ponder forever and beyond and will drive you crazy!!! Don’t allow it to… Do something!! Anything… Call and talk with a friend… Get on this computer and type.. Draw a picture… Go on a walk… Go out to eat!! DO SOMETHING!! cause it gets your mind working in other ways than just thinking about “stuff” you don’t really want to be thinking about… Just think about you!! Do things for you!!! and think positve!! It will be hard.. and times will be rough.. But.. There is light at the end of the tunnel as soon as you decide you are going to live your life for you!! NOT anyone else!! If you ever need to talk or ANYTHING at all.. Fun mail me!! I’m willing to listen and to try to give out advice at anytime!!!

Okay I know this sounds crazy, but there was a neurological study that said if you associate one behavior with happiness, eventually just doing that behavior will make you happy! For example, if you clap your hands once every time something really good happens and it makes you happy, then after you do that 50-100 times, you could do it when you are feeling sad and it will make you happy and think about happier things! Also, try to focus on the really good things in life that are coming up, and think about them in detail when you are feeling sad and it will get you so excited that you can’t think about feeling sad. Another thing, this is just a cool fact but it is physically and mentally impossible to feel depressed when looking up as it triggers a different part of your brain! Hope this helped! xx

I don’t think that there are ways to make yourself happy. I believe that happiness just comes naturally, and if you force it then you’re also forcing yourself.
