how do you heal your hamstring?

I am a dancer and the other night I over stretched and I did something to my hamstrings. Im not sure if I pulled them or what. It hurts to walk tho, and I deffinately cannot stretch. I have a really big competition next weekend, do you have any ideas that will make it not hurt as much?

Answer #1

The most common approach to treating pulled muscles is RICE. Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation.

Your first priority is to avoid further injury. Don’t try to work or stretch the muscle right away. Rest until the worst of the pain is gone. Also apply ice and wrap the injury. In a few days hopefully you will be feeling enough better to begin to stretch and exercise though be conservative since if you reinjure the muscle you will be unlikely to be ready for your competition.

Good luck!
