How do I tell my parents I want to be an actress?

I’ve thought a lot about acting. I’ve been in plays before and LOVE it. Now, I’m thinking that I want to make a career of it. But I can’t figure out how to tell my mom without her thinking I’m crazy or not believing me. Help?

Don’t reply by telling me that I might not be able to start an acting career. I KNOW THAT.

Well see, my mom doesn’t reall take me seriously when I tell her things like that. Last night we were watching D*ck (‘Cause I can’t say his name. -_-) Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve. I told her I was going to go to New York for New Year’s Eve some year when I’m older. She laughed and said, “You’ll never go there.” The thing was, she meant it. I told her, “I’m going there and I will show you pictures and everything. You’ll see, then I’ll be the one laughing at you because you’ll be watching me on the tv having a blast while your home being bored.” I guess I said it in a bad tone of voice because she called me a name or two then walked off into the kitchen.

But yeah.. back on topic.

See, if I couldn’t make it, I have a backup plan. I want to open and run a daycare. Besides acting or singing, it’s been a life long dream. Well, give or take a few years. For a while when I was little I wanted to be a nurse.

Maybe instead of doing it now, I should continue with plays and such until I’m out of my parent’s house? I don’t know.

Simple… just tell them straight. it’s not the worst career in the world and if you make it, you’ll be laughing! just tell them you’re following your heart and also ensure them that you have a back up plan in case you dont make it! good luck and maybe I’ll see you on TV.. xx

Go ahead and tell her! Tell her why you want to and tell her that you will be dedicated to it. Tell her how much you love acting.. She shouldn’t think your crazy and she wouldn’t not believe you!!.. Hopefully anyway =] If you are very serious about it then you would need to get an agent and everything. If your mum sees that you want to do it then she will support you and help you through to your acting career =]

And why would anyone say that you might not be able to start and acting career? =]

Yes.. tell your mum anyway and if she doesn’t take you seriously then I guess carry on with plays and stuff. It will show her that you are committed and one day she might believe what you say =]
