How do I make my parents let me be a vegetarian?

I want to be a vegetarian.

Before I go on, I understand that this is a humongous committment and I want to be one. Badly.

Problem? My parents won’t let me.

And my mom seriously said “Because I’m the boss.”

Ugh.

So what do I do?

And what are the best ways to get the protein I’ll need?

well, Really, it’s pretty much that simple. Protein is everywhere. if you’re eating anything resembling a healthy, balanced vegetarian diet, you’re getting more than you need. You don’t need special vegetarian products, just eat real food.

Protein is plentiful not only in soybeans, but in all legumes (beans, peas, lentils, peanuts, chickpeas, etc…) It’s also found in whole grains (wheat, oats, millet, quinoa, etc…) Snack on nuts and seeds; besides protein, they have iron, calcium, heart-healthy fats, etc… Vegetables have a surprising amount of protein, especially green ones; on a per-calorie basis, brocolli has way more protein than beef.

If you’re eating dairy products, that’s just another source. But, honestly, even vegans can easily get plenty. If you actually kept track of protein grams for a couple of days (like read the labels or looked up the nutritional information for everything you ate) you’d probably be surprised. True protein deficiency is almost unheard of in the developed world; if it was common, the word “kwashiorkor” would be in everyone’s vocabulary.

My parents didn’t want me to be one. I tried talking to them sensibly. It didn’t work. So I was rash. I refused to eat. And I didn’t cave and eat. Then they were like oh its better she eats the shit she wants then not eating at all. So they let me have my way. It’s your body, you should be able to decide what you put in it. You’ll just have to try different things to see what works with them. Can’t really help you all to much there.

Uhmmm as for the protein: Tofu is AMAZING, it’ll be your new BFF =P haha, nuts are great, and I have peanutbutter (with crackers) to snack on throughout the day. Beans are good too if you like them. Those are the best ways… You could just eat veggies and dairy like said above but that can get risky, depending on your eating habbits…

yo hottidoll no offense but your parents are a*holes :(

and really, I have an idea: just don’t eat meat, period. They can’t force you to eat it. If they make meat for dinner, make a pbj sanwhich or something. Just don’t make a big deal out of it

Answer #5

lol oh yes she can.

I tried once in seventh grade (last year) and my dad pinned me down while my mom shoved ham down my throat.

I only lasted two weeks. =[

and thanks for the protein. I never even realized lolz!!!

Answer #6

Well… for the protein beans, nuts, and peanut butter have a lot. Just try to explain to your mom that you want to be a vegetarian. If she denys that just stop eating meat. She cant force you to eat it. Lol.

Answer #7

Sometimes perents are thinking that when we don’t eat meat we don’t get enff proteins in the body. You can tell her the facts about being a vegeterian and all the good stuff and also, explaining a;; the the things that meat can do and also all the bad things animals go trough when eathing meat.

If you are becoming a vegeterian because you want to be healthy also know that manny people do that but eat chicken and fish whitch is considered white meat and also to be healthy.

GOOD LUCK!:)

Answer #8

You don’t need anything special to be a vegetarian, just stop eating meat and make sure you get enough iron.
