How did geography influence Sparta and Athens?
I have to write an essay about how the geography of greece influenced Sparta and Athens. I already wrote about how Athens wanted more land in Greece, and how Sparta was a better army on land than in sea. What else is there?
Sparta was surrounded by easily defended passes and had fertile soil, hence the Spartans could rise to a powerful military in the region. Athens soil was junk, hence she had to look to the sea and had one of the best navies of the time.
Sounds like you have a pretty good start on it already…I suggest continued research at the library or online.
I also wrote about how Sparta used the Narrow geography to help them durring the persian war in Thermopylae. Are there any other wars were the Goegraphy of greece influnced?
