How can I tackle better and harder?

I’m really getting into rugby, which is a lot like american football… but what I’d like to know is how can I really tackle well, I’m a big player (about 70KG) but I’m fit and fast so I can get momentum for the tackle, but I was wondering if I could get some advice from you lads (or even ladies) how you do a successful tackle. cus I’ve got a game of thursday and I want to show the guys I’m a hard ass tackler. cus I can take guys out that are bigger than me. which I why the lads want me on their team. cheers lads (and possible ladies)

I was a safety while I played high school football and I only weighed about 150lbs so most guys could run over me. I used a lot of wrap tackling and not power tackling. My favorite technique was to just run my shoulder into their waist while grabbing and pulling on one of both of their knees while spinning to take them down. I would more worry about not getting embarrassed though. You do not have to be the biggest hitter. Just make sure you are known on defense. I was a shutdown safety and they knew not to throw the ball my way cause I would snatch it out of the air.

Another thing is to concentrate on not just tackling but stripping the ball from the carrier. If they expect a big hit from you then that means they are not thinking about keeping the ball tight into their chest and leaving them vulnerable!
