I have a 10 month old male boxer who is having horrible gas problems. We previously had a 14 yo boxer, and she never had this problem. Our other 2 dogs are fine too. We were advised to switch from the Diamond Lamb and Rice puppy food we were using to the adult food, and that this would solve the problem. I thought boxers needed to be on puppy food longer due to their rapid growth, our yellow lab stayed on puppy food closer to 2 years. Any advice?
Actually, getting large dogs OFF puppy food early is better. The high protein content of puppy food is what causes problems with joints because of rapid growth. Many Vets wil tell you to not give a large breed ANY puppy food. So do take your pup off the puppy chow, and get him onto a lower protein, high quality adult food.
Boxers, Bulldogs, Pugs...all the short snouted dogs are prone to flatulance...I think having one who doesn't have gas is the rare one...
You could also try adding a tablespoon of plain yogurt to his food...it has the 'good bugs' for digestion (there are also digestive enzymes for dogs that you can purchase...I use Prozyme)...these too might help.

Phranie is right! It is usually rare to have a boxer that DOESN"T have gas! Usually the flatter snouted dogs have gas because they swallow too much air while eating. I thought buying holistic food would help... but I was wrong! Check the first ingredients in the food and if it has any type of bean or soy, this can also cause your dog to have flatulence. I have a boston terrier with the same stinky, embarrassing problem. I feed her a high quality grain free food, and it really helped!
