Sartje,

Good on you for realizing its a huge problem, and a huge mistake you’ve made. That is the first step on the road to recovery. Well done.

There are a number of people on this site who have had bulimia and come out the other end and recovered. They will be able to help guide you through getting better than any advice I could give you ever could, but if you ever need any help I’m only a funmail away.

If you haven’t already done so, I suggest you tell your family and friends whats going on - they will be the ones who will also help you through this, after all they care about you and want the best for you. There will be times when you want to try to purge again, and you need people around you who will stop you. You can get better though, and I’m sure those who have had bulimia and got better will soon be in touch with you.

Good Luck!

I am of the impression that it never goes away. I just did IP and yeah didnt do much I came out on fire and fell right back down not as hard but its. the worst part is I taught my best friend about it. I am tired of the scars, and I am tired of the therapy and the daily fights. I still loose it at least once a day sometimes more.

Bulimia is an addiction, just like alcohol or drugs. I have actually gone to an AA meeting in support of my dad a few times (he just go his 2 year chip, I am very proud of him!) and the thing I hear the most is “… you have to come to the meetings. Don’t ever think you’re better, because eventually you will turn back to your addiction.” So my advice for you is to seek treatment, then go to group counceling a few times a week and keep it up, cause the more support you have, the better it will help you fight the urge to go back to your old ways. Maybe eventually you will inspire other girls, like yourself, to beat their disease. Good luck!

Sartje, Bulimia (as well as anorexia) is a psychological disorder that needs therapy and possably medication to bring it under control, and eventually stop it. Group therapy is usually the way it goes.

I’m glad you have begun the trip to health. This disease only leads to misery and possible death. Treatment takes patience. It may take years, but most bulimics who stick with it end up healthy and fully in control of their eating.

Good Luck, I wish you the best.
