How can I get over my fainting?

Ok, so I’m about to go into college to study Biology and Medical Science. I want to get into the healthcare profession, maybe a nurse, midwife or dentist. The only problem is, when I see injuries or lots of blood and guts, I hate it. I faint in class when we do experiments, such as cutting up organs, and I faint when I see pictures of injuries and things. I really want to get over this, as I find Human Biology one of the most interesting things on earth. Somebody please help!! What can I do to stop myself feeling squeamish, or is there any kind of therapy that could help??

I used to work at a nursing home but had to quit because I would get sick…feeling faint, like I was going to throw up or pass out. I would get really hot and couldn’t breathe, dizziness, weak, etc… I had been doing that since I was 18 I’m now 31 and I didn’t know what was causing it. I had a glucose test because I thought it was my blood sugar but it wasn’t. six months ago I found out that all those years I was suffering from panic attacks. I am now taking Celexa for my anxiety and Xanax only when I need it. I am much better now. Stress will bring them on as well as a close one’s illness. I get attached easily to people, especially someone I’m taking care of or care a great deal about. You may check into the panic attack thing if nursing is something you really want to do because it is overlooked in the medical community. I get my medicine through mental care. They can put you on anxiety medication that doesn’t interfere with your life. Celexa doesn’t make me drowsy, its like I’m not taking anything at all and it helps a great deal with my stress and panic attacks. I don’t know how I dealt with caring for my mother-in-law when she was dying from cancer and my panic attacks without my Celexa. I made it through it but it was difficult to take of myself when all I was worried about was her and my children. I hope this helps and good luck with your future career!

I guess the only way to get over it is to indulge yourself in it. Watch transplant videos, operation videos, childbirths etc as much as you can, just make sure you are on your bed or somewhere where if you fait you wont hurt yourself! Eventually it will get easier to watch these things. Watching it first-hand is very different though, but watching videos will make it easier on you. try and watch 1 or 2 every night, with time it will get easier.
